Problems Associated With Enlarged Prostate

There are two primary classifications of prostate problems: prostatitis and benign prostatic hypertrophy (BPH).

For men under 50, the most common prostate problem is prostatitis.

"Prostatitis" means that the prostate is inflamed. If you have prostatitis, you may have a burning feeling when you urinate, or you may have to urinate more often. Or you may have a fever or just feel tired. It can be caused by physical injury to the prostate gland, or some autoimmune diseases (in which the body's immune system damages the body's own cells). Prostatitis is not prostate cancer, but can also cause the following symptoms:

For men over 50, the most common prostate problem is BPH or prostate enlargement. As men get older, their prostate keeps growing. As it grows, it squeezes the urethra. Since urine travels from the bladder through the urethra, the pressure from the enlarged prostate may effect bladder control.

Swelling of the prostate, whether by infection or a tumor, can slow or even stop the urine flow by constricting the urethra. You are unlikely to be aware of your prostate unless it causes you trouble. Similar to prostatitis, BPH is not cancer and is not the same as prostate cancer. However, a man can have both BPH and prostate cancer.

BPH can also raise Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) levels two to three times higher than seen in normal levels. BPH is a progressive disease recognized by all forms of medicine in this country. More than half of men in their 60s have some symptoms of BPH. As many as 90% of men in their 70s and 80s have some symptoms of BPH.

It is important if you are experiencing these symptoms to have your prostate checked by a doctor.

The ingredients in Prostalex Plus have been shown in clinical studies to help reduce the size of an enlarged prostate when taken over time. As always, you should check with your doctor if you feel your symptoms of an enlarged prostate are not dissipating. Men over the age of 50 should also have annual prostate-health checkups with their doctor.

Note: Prostalex Plus is not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
